Gavin turns 5!!

I can't believe that he has grown up this much in the time that we've lived here in SLC! He is soo excited though. We're gonna have a fun "Halloween" themed party with a 'ghost' pinata and yummy treats. Because Gavin loves mohawks, I'm gonna let him wear one on his birthday. These pictures were taken about a month ago but it is funny how Gavin transformed into a "cool dude." I had to encourage him to smile to make sure he wasn't angry.

Garden

We had a tremendous amount of zucchini this year from our garden. Needless to say, I made a LOT of zucchini bread and shared it with neighbors. This was the most successful garden yet, due to the constant upkeep (and a lot of fertilizer!) We have enjoyed eating our home-grown veggies: tomatoes, squash, snow peas, broccoli, cucumber, carrots and our very own pumpkins!

The Rainbow

Grandma Haymore was visiting us on the day that we got a perfect rainbow. Elisabeth loves rainbows!

Logan is Eight!!

As is customary in our church, children who turn eight years old are able to be baptized and confirmed official members. We had a wonderful visit with family members who came to support Logan in his decision to be baptized. We even got a sneak visit from his "Uncle Ben" who is currently serving a mission here in Salt Lake City.
We were so happy to get to visit with the Kulesus Family (Grandma and Grandpa, Erin and Mike) and Grandma Haymore. It was a wonderful birthday for Logan!

Moab, UT

We really needed a vacation. This was our first "official" vacation since moving to UT (other than visits to family out of state.) We really had fun hiking around Arches National Park and swimming in the Super 8 Hotel pool. The kids had so much fun, Elisabeth wanted to move there! It was just gorgeous!

Funny Guy

Gavin says the funniest things! At dinner tonight, Logan asked Rich what "digestion" was. He began to explain about how food is broken down and ends up in either your large or small intestines. Gavin asked, "What about your medium intestines?"

The Primary presidency sent us a questionnaire to have the kids respond about what they have been learning in church this past year. On one question, "How can you follow the prophet?", Gavin responded, "By walking behind him".

Monte L. Bean Museum, Provo, UT

Owl Moth Butterfly

Here, Erin is showing Gavin and Elisabeth how this butterfly uses a unique kind of camouflage.

Taxidermy

This museum is named after a guy who apparently loved to hunt! We saw so many animals!

Top of the World!

Near the "Bell Tower" of BYU, there is this stream with a man-made waterfall. Logan declared victory once he climbed to the top.

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs

I remember one night at BYU years ago, scientists were collecting bugs at night in front of the museum. They would shine a huge light into the dark sky and capture whatever they could in a large net.

Swimming Lessons

The kids took their first swimming lessons this summer. Fairmont Aquatic Center in Sugarhouse has a very fun indoor pool. Although Gavin had some hard times adjusting, he ultimately learned quickly and began enjoying swimming. He and Logan were able to "move up" to the next level! Elisabeth just needs to work on her back float some more.

Marriage?

Rich was telling me the other day that some of the boys that live here like to play with Elisabeth.

Marci: "Really?"
Rich: "Sure! They like to play 'Husband and
Wife'."
Marci: "Who plays with her?"
Rich: "Muhammad and his brothers."

Elisabeth happened to be listening in and at this point had a really confused facial expression. She thought for a few seconds and then finally asked...

Elisabeth: "Why does Muhammad want to be the Wife?"

First Publication!

Rich finally got his first paper accepted! Here is a link to the abstract: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18458066?dopt=AbstractPlus

Whew, did you get any of that??

Why you should eat your dinner...

Advice given to Gavin from his sister, Elisabeth.

"You need to eat your dinner.
If you eat your dinner, you will get bigger.
If you get bigger, you will lose your teeth.
If you lose your teeth, you will get money..
So, eat your dinner!!"

In the Beginning....

Here we go. It's time I start. I know all of the grandparents will be happy I'm doing this. I can really see that it won't be too hard to keep up and it will be great for journaling the kids growing up, etc. Hope you all enjoy...
